About Hotspot Birding Online Birding Data

About HotspotBirding

HotspotBirding is a site dedicated to providing smart tools and resources based on real data to help birders of all ages. What bird is that? Where should I go birding? Where can I find a Rufous-capped Warbler? HotspotBirding can answer that. HotspotBirding is the most accurate way to track, find, and photograph all your favorite species.

Optimized Data

HotspotBirding is a collection of tools and resources primarily built using eBird data. Viewing and reporting sightings to eBird not only helps universities, researchers and scientist alike, but also provides more accurate data for you. We then convert and optimize this data to useful tools, charts, and pages to help you better identify species, find birds you're looking for, and have fun birding!

Feedback

We are always looking to improve HotspotBirding and we rely on feedback and comments from you to help make HotspotBirding your go-to tool for birding planning. On any page you'll notice the 'Provide Feedback' button in the bottom right hand corner. Please use it.

Please leave us feedback or report a bug.

Smartphone Friendly

Have you tried HotspotBirding on your phone or tablet? HotspotBirding makes it easy to get the data you need in the field. No app download needed!

Head Birder

My name is Jonathan Coffey. Like most of you I have a passion for birds, travel and the outdoors. I built HotspotBirding to solve common issues I ran into as an early birder trying to identify birds, find Hotspots, and excel at birding.

The goal and mission of Hotspot Birding is simple: Happy Birding. I hope you can find as much usefulness, practicality and most of all fun, birding with the help of the tools and resources on this site.

Happy Birding

“Birding is hunting without killing, preying without punishing, and collecting without clogging your home. Take a field guide into the woods and you’re more than a hiker. Your a detective on a back country beat, tracking the latest suspect from Mexico, Antarctica, or even the Bronx. Spend enough time sloshing through swamps or scaling summits or shuffling through beach sand and you inevitably face a tough question: Am I a grown up birder or just another kid on a treasure hunt?” -Mark Obmascik
